Backflow testing 2025

Irrigation systems save time and make watering lawns and gardens easier. However, water that may be contaminated by weed killers and/or fertilizers can be back-siphoned (backflow) into your drinking water. Because of these risks, the Uniform Plumbing Code, State Regulations, etc. require approved backflow protection. Irrigation systems not protected by approved backflow prevention assemblies could endanger the health of a household, neighborhood or community.

All irrigation (sprinkler) systems, swimming pools, Jacuzzi’s and commercial businesses, new or existing, must be equipped with an approved backflow prevention assembly. Only properly installed, State approved backflow prevention assemblies comply with the plumbing code and provide health protection for your family and neighbors. Backflow devices are mechanical assemblies that help stop cross contamination of the clean water system. All backflow installation practices, devices and testing procedures will be in accordance with the District’s backflow prevention policy and State Drinking Water Regulations.

East Spokane Water District #1 has contracted with Bastin Backflow Testing, to perform the annual testing of the premise, irrigation (sprinkler) and/or fire line backflow prevention assembly at the above address. Backflow testing for commercial businesses could start as early as April 01, 2025 and residential will start May 01, 2025. If you would prefer to use your own certified backflow tester, commercial business and residential properties will need to contact our office by March 21, 2025 to let us know. If we do not hear from you by the designated date, we will assume you are using Bastin Backflow and we will proceed accordingly with our contracted backflow tester.  Please be aware if you contact the District after the designated dates to inform us you are using an outside certified back flow tester, you may run the risk of being charged for two tests if our backflow tester has already tested your device. The charge for the initial contract backflow test is $50.00 plus tax, which includes our admin fee.    However, if your backflow device fails during the initial testing, the cost for repairs and retesting is the responsibility of the property owner.

For those that choose not to use our contracted backflow tester, there is a $10.00  plus tax admin fee.

If you prefer to use your own back flow tester, please have your certified back flow tester submit all proper documentation to our office no later than July 31, 2025.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact our office at 509.926.6072.  We are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. excluding major holidays.
